Best Practices & Performance
LODs, texture sizes and scene building tips.
LODs
Every core model has three LOD levels:
- LOD0 – best quality, for close-up cliffs and important foreground formations
- LOD1 – medium distance
- LOD2 – background formations, or scenes where many cliffs are visible at once
Texture sizes
The textures are at most 2048 × 2048. Lower their import size in Unity when you need a smaller footprint:
- Close-up and high-quality scenes: 2048
- Standard gameplay: 2048
- Lower-end hardware: 1024–2048
- Far background formations: 1024 or lower
Performance tips
- Keep the included LOD Groups enabled.
- Lower the texture import size where full 2048 textures aren’t needed.
- Turn off colliders on decorative pieces without gameplay.
- Reuse the biome materials instead of making many duplicates.
Scene building tips
- Mix Wall A and Wall B to reduce repetition.
- Combine wide, narrow, blocky and sloped pillars for a varied silhouette.
- Use the mesa as a landmark or background formation.
- Place boulders near cliff bases and transitions.
- Rotate repeated pieces where the layout allows it.
- Scale carefully to add variety while keeping the stylized proportions.
- Blend cliff bases with terrain, ground textures, foliage, debris or small props.
- Try the other biome materials to test alternative looks of the same layout.
The best results come from combining several shapes rather than repeating one cliff piece.
